SIBS OFFICES, Lisbon  (2007/2009)

In a building, the product of a cavalier attitude to technical requirements, which was left without an adequate structure and without a properly outlined infra-structural system, the proposal was to redesign the entire functional and spatial system of the building, combining in one same design all the elements that the complex schematics required.

The infra-structures were the engine of this project, and were its major generators allowing for the multi-disciplinary work to become an integrated project.

JIP POPULAR KINDERGARTEN, CACÉM  (2002/2006)

Recommended for the 4th Compendium of Exemplary Educational Facilities by OECD, 2010

The invitation to enter the competition for the project of a re-housing a Kindergarten in a lot of the new plan for Cacém, was the opportunity to reflect on the relational characteristics of a public building with the harsh environment of a suburban area, while working and testing concepts of bio-climatics integrated in a multidisciplinary project of public space.

REVITALISATION FREEDOM SQUARE IN DURRES, ALBANIA

INTNL COMPETITION 2008

The first impact (sometimes the densest because it is innocent), at a bigger scale, is the way how the iliria square polarises all the urban tissue and circulation scheme. Like a body |almost an organic form| with arms that embrace the whole city. Its position, its geometry, all a result of centuries of development (urban, political, social and cultural) show the importance that the site encloses potentially as a representative place.

PORTUGAL PAVILION FOR THE EXPO ZARAGOZA 2008

CLOSED COMPETITION

The general concept of this exhibition space is to lead the visitor through a winding path, with the metaphor of a channel excavated by water, dynamic and light. Thus provides a suggestive space, set in the water, almost a time line, a bridge between realities. The route within this space is governed by the support of the exhibition contents, which, modelling itself to the built space, leads the visitor through the three proposed themes/spaces: territory; emotion; Utopia.

URBAN RECONVERSION OF EX. F.V. INDUSTRIAL AREA, MARGHERA. CLOSED INTNL COMPETITION, 2007

The proposal arises from the conjunction of two primordial intentions, initially in conflict (apparently) and opposite - to build the required buildings and a public space, comfortable and welcoming while simultaneously maintaining that "brutalist" beauty deeply rooted in the existing industrial scale. These intentions do not arise from a forced mechanism of memory preservation, but simply because the qualities of this territory are uncontrollable and at the same time transposable on the new designed fabric.

MEMORIAL SITE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE TSUNAMI DISASTER. INTNL COMPETITION, NORWAY,  2006.

The proposal, based on sensorial experiences , wants to transmit a magnitude that cause emotion, breathtaking and simultaneously confidence.

Growing from the waterfront, the monument creates a platform culminating on a crystallised representation of  “wave” (a tsunami wave as much as an exceptional nature calamity) . Both powerlessness and hope are present in the space. The visitor experience is based on opposed feelings.
